Global flood

Look at the biblical description of the global Flood and you’ll see that it cannot be reconciled with an old-earth (millions of years) worldview. Does the Bible say the Flood was global? Look at these descriptions of the flood. (Following passages are from NASB, emphasis added.)

The LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” (Genesis 6:7)

God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. (Genesis 6:12–13)

“Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. (Genesis 6:17)

And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. (Genesis 6:19)

“For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” (Genesis 7:4)

… on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:11–12)

Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher,and the mountains were covered. All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. (Genesis 7:17–23)

There is so much historical and scientific evidence of a global flood, but the Bible is the ultimate authority.

Carnivores

Ice Age contains a lot of representations of nature “red in tooth and claw” (as Carl Sagan once called nature). As young-earth creationists, we believe that man and all animals started out vegetarian.

God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; andto every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. (Genesis 1:28–30)

“Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.”As for you, take for yourself some of all food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did. (Genesis 6:20–22)

“The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. “Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you,as I gave the green plant. “Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. (Genesis 9:2–4)

Ice Age shows animals behaving in ways that are not like animals: killing out of revenge.

Packs, herds, families

Tigers are not pack animals, but Ice Age puts a strong emphasis on what makes a herd.

That’s what you do in a herd, you look out for each other.

As Christians, we are the “weirdest herd” because the body of Christ does not discriminate on any ground except belief in Christ.

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

Pro-life

Ice Age makes a pro-life statement—though we do take it out of context.

No thanks, I choose life.

For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 129:13–14)

The dodo

We found the dodo birds very humorous. They describe the mechanics of the ice age, and we can laugh at their end-of-the-world, doomsday attitude.

Family and marriage

My family migrated without me … ah, who needs them anyway?

Adoption is a beautiful concept. That is the kind of beauty that is in the family of God.

If you find a mate in life you should be loyal

I think mating for life is stupid.

And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,⁵and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” (Matthew 19:4–6)

Homosexuality is briefly referenced in Ice Age. Homosexual behavior is abnormal and it is a choice and not a nature with which that someone is born.

Humans don’t talk

Save your breath, Sid. You know humans can’t talk.

Ice Age shows people with all the human characteristics except speech. Does it present humans as not having communication skills, or as not being able to communicate with animals?

Humans as predators

What’s so threatening about you?

Because if we save him, he’ll grow up to be a hunter.

It’s ironic that Ice Age presents humans as separate and different from the animal kingdom. The biblical view is that man is separate from animals.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:26–27)

the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)

Natural selection

“Survival of the fittest” or natural selection is not an evolutionary concept. Natural selection is a filtering of pre-existing information within kinds of animals. Intelligence can trump the physical fitness of animals.

Embarrassment to nature

How can you embarrass nature? Evolutionists/secularists frequently personify nature. But this is kind of a way of denying God—by giving His creative power and authority and characteristic to nature, which cannot think, create, be embarrassed, etc.

If we endure, we will also reign with Him;
If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:12–13)

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 10:33)

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels. (Luke 9:26)
