I played and really enjoyed Ubisoft’s PC video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (only $10 download from Amazon.com!). It has a unique style of gameplay, intriguing story, and I remember the trailer for the game looking like a trailer for a movie.
Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of some of my favorite movies such as The Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure, worked with Disney to realize the already-movie-like video game as a feature-length movie.
Historically, video games turned into movies have been terrible: Doom, Hitman, and Max Payne are three that immediately come to mind. However, I do think that the Tomb Raider movies were enjoyable. Apparently, I have a pattern for not liking movies with Mark Wahlberg. Even the Final Fantasy movies could only appeal to game-players, if even to them!
So here comes Bruckheimer, with his vast success, to attempt what others have failed or at least only moderately achieved. Will Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time be any different when it opens on Friday, May 28? Eve and I will preview it on Tuesday, May 25, and record our critical-thinking review for your listening benefit.
